I had never cooked short ribs before but I had eaten them plenty of times. Knowing how delicious they are, I wanted to venture out and make them myself. Since they are somewhat pricy pieces of meat to purchase, I needed to do a lot of research first. I figured out how long to cook them for, at what temperature, and read how people succeeded and failed. I knew that by using Oatmeal Yeti by Great Divide (#yetimafia) something good had to come out of that pot…it just had to. So, I took the plunge, threw everything in my big red pot, and hoped for the best. As the short ribs simmered in the oven, basking in the gloriousness that is Oatmeal Yeti, I had plenty of time to pray for a delicious outcome. My wishes came true – I made something amazing. I’ve documented my trip to short-rib-braising-ville so that I can share my experience. Now you can make something awesome too.

Great Divide 20th Anniversary Party
The Great Divide Anniversary party was an absolute blast. Quite possibly one of the best beer parties I’ve ever been to! Not one did we drink brand-spankin-new brews, we ate from food trunks and dances to punk and 90’s music. Please, please, please can we do it all over again?
The new brews we drank and the Great Divide 20th Anniversary party were OUT OF THIS WORLD. A few of my favorites were Yeiser, Berliner Weisse, and Red Comet.
Yeiser was a 10% saison…you know how I love saisons and I definitely LOVE this saison.
Berliner Weisse was, you guessed it, a berliner weisse. It was a tart, refreshing, dream-in-a-glass. I’m probably most excited about this one.
Finally, Red Comet. Oh lordy, how do I describe the amazing flavors bursting out of this brew? I can’t because I was slightly tipsy after drinking endless beers and my hands were too full to write anything down. What I can tell you is that Red Comet is a Flanders red ale, its sour as all hell and its complex, sexy body made me drink more than one glass. Bravo, Great Divide! You are geniuses.

Chocolate Yeti Banana Bread Muffins
Both of my grandmothers make amazing banana bread. Fo’ realz – its amazing. And I got to eat both all the time as a child which probably explains my weird chubby phase that I went through from ages 8-15. Smothering cream cheese and extra sugar on top probably didn’t help either. So, which of my grandmothers’ recipes did I choose to make? Neither, of course! I refuse to pick favorites. Instead, I made my own and threw some beer in it. Not just any beer, though. I chose Chocolate Oak-Aged Yeti by Great Divide. The Yeti series of stouts is by far the best. Ok..I guess I do pick favorites. But really, I’m not a big stout drinker and I find that all of the variations of Yeti are incredibly smooth. They are also easy to cook with and pair food with, as seen in the coconut macaroon recipe.
Cooking with Friends – Pasta Carbonara
Last week I went over to cook with my newly married friends, the Belsky family. I love cooking with friends, especially when we are making separate parts of the meal. This way, we don’t have to end up in a fist-fight over who has the best technique or which recipe is better (can you tell I am super competitive). Kaitlin stuck to what she knew, the carbonara, and I worked on with the pasta. Kaitlin and Peter also got a little lesson on how to make pasta from scratch! It was great having Peter around because we used him to finish kneading the pasta. I like making pasta but my weak little girl muscles just can’t handle the burn, which is why its great to have big, strong men around to help out in the kitchen.

Clearly I have a Parks and Rec addiction. But I love everything about it and I can’t stop. So, in honor of my favorite show and my favorite holiday, I made a treat to celebrate Galentine’s day, where its just “ladies celebratin’ ladies!” These cookies are actually amazing. I brought them to a meeting and everyone was quite pleaed (I even let boys eat them too). To go with the breakfast theme of Galentine’s, they are paired with the Espresso Oak Aged Yeti by Great Divide. The combination of the two tastes somewhat like a Samoa Girl Scout Cookie. If you’re a good friend, you’ll make this recipe for all your gal pals (even if you’re a dude).
