The Great Divide Anniversary party was an absolute blast. Quite possibly one of the best beer parties I’ve ever been to! Not one did we drink brand-spankin-new brews, we ate from food trunks and dances to punk and 90’s music. Please, please, please can we do it all over again?
The new brews we drank and the Great Divide 20th Anniversary party were OUT OF THIS WORLD. A few of my favorites were Yeiser, Berliner Weisse, and Red Comet.
Yeiser was a 10% saison…you know how I love saisons and I definitely LOVE this saison.
Berliner Weisse was, you guessed it, a berliner weisse. It was a tart, refreshing, dream-in-a-glass. I’m probably most excited about this one.
Finally, Red Comet. Oh lordy, how do I describe the amazing flavors bursting out of this brew? I can’t because I was slightly tipsy after drinking endless beers and my hands were too full to write anything down. What I can tell you is that Red Comet is a Flanders red ale, its sour as all hell and its complex, sexy body made me drink more than one glass. Bravo, Great Divide! You are geniuses.

The third day of waffle week brings a somewhat healthier option: a salad. Yeah, and I even took a bite! Amazing… I know. I actually kind of liked it. But since I didn’t eat the whole thing, I invited some girlfriends over to make sure the recipe was sound – they both agreed it was quite tasty. Since I couldn’t just sit there while they ate, I chowed down on the basil/mint/feta waffle and some leftovers from the BLT-double-E. I think it was a win-win for all of us.
Oh yeah, and as for the name – it has two meanings. First, BMF = basil, mint, feta. Second = well, its three bad words. I realized this after coming up with the abbreviation for the ingredients and thought it was pretty awesome. Children may be reading this blog so I won’t spell it out but I’m sure you can figure it out.
I just about died when I bit into this BLT-double-E waffle sandwich. Maybe you can’t tell from the picture but there are actually fried eggs cooked into the waffle. That’s right, in the middle of each waffle, there is a precious little egg waiting to satisfy your every bite. Also on the sandwich, is lettuce. It is a BLT after all but if you’ve read my previous posts, you know I hate salad and I hate lettuce. I’ll bear through the green stuff though, if it’s on a bacon sandwich. The best part about this BLT-double-E, besides being so darn delicious, is that it’s flexible! Who says you even have to add lettuce? You could add avocado, more bacon, turkey, more bacon….you get the picture.
It’s the beginning of waffle week and I hope y’all are ready to start the all-carb diet! I’ve got some great things in store but to start it off, I’m doing another spin on the classic chicken and waffles. Maybe you remember the Sweet Chili Fried Chicken and Buttermilk Chive Waffles? This time, I made a BBQ Chicken and Cornbread Waffle. The BBQ sauce was made using Smoke Jumper – a smoked imperial porter from Left Hand Brewing that packs the perfect amount of campfire smokiness. I never made a BBQ sauce before this one so I must say, I think I did pretty well. I’d describe it as ‘sweet heat’ where it starts of a little sweet and tangy (and of course smokey) and ends with spicy flavors. Top it all with some green onions and a dash of salt and you’re ready for a great meal on the patio.

We are a bunch of fruits over here at Drink and Spoon and we also love cooking with fruit. Therefore, we are going to stay on this fruit and beer train with our next recipe: Slow Cooked St. Bretta Applesauce. St. Bretta Spring from Crooked Stave is a 100% Brettanomyces Whitebier, brewed with Minneola tangelos, and aged in foeders (basically giant barrels) for 6 weeks. It’s tart and extremely citrusy. Citrus from the beer + sweet apples + a few spices/herbs = a recipe for success. I particularly like this recipe because it’s a different take on your regular old applesauce and it makes enough for some to be jarred and stored or given away as a gift. My serving suggestions include: serve it with pork chops, use it in your pancakes, or just have a giant bowl for a snack. As for as how long you can store the jars, I found this link that shows you how to preserve them for a longggg time (http://www.wikihow.com/Preserve-Applesauce) otherwise, I’d keep them in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

I knew The Source was a rad place long before I went there to drink beer. Not only had I looked it up online, I had eaten a delicious chorizo benedict at Comida, a restaurant in the building, a few weeks before. The Source is a collective of eateries, providers of booze, and quaint little shops. Within the warehouse, there is a butcher, a baker, a florist, a gallery, a distillery, and nestled in the back left corner is Crooked Stave. The surrounding atmosphere is hip yet the look of the bar is simple and sleek. They put all their focus into their brews, which becomes quite apparent when you start to drink them.
